【HK01報導】Youth Council Launches First Inno Impact Youth Creativity Pilot Program: 5 Projects to Help Solve Social Issues

Innovative Ideas from Youth to Address Social Issues Amid the Pandemic

The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) has launched the “Inno Impact Youth Creativity Pilot Program” for the first time, encouraging young people to care for society in various ways. By using creative and innovative thinking, they aim to help solve social problems and create social value and impact.

The competition attracted 387 young participants who submitted 175 proposals. The five winning innovative and creative proposals each have unique features, including setting up virtual overseas internships, helping students with special educational needs (SEN) find tutoring services, providing fun training games for people with cognitive impairments, and establishing a programming education platform. Each winning proposal received a cash grant of HKD 200,000 and other support packages.

Foster Worldwide – Virtual Global Internship
Team Members: 麥穎恩, 鄭煦喬, 蕭鎮宇, 歐陽紹銘

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the global economy and triggered a youth employment crisis. Foster Worldwide provides career education services and launched the “90-Hour Virtual Internship Program,” which has partnered with overseas companies and organizations from 60 countries and regions across 20 industries. This allows young people to engage in virtual overseas internships, online vocational training, and mentorship programs.

Traditional overseas internships can be costly due to airfare, accommodation, and other expenses, making them difficult to implement during the pandemic. The innovative virtual overseas internship model is expected to overcome these limitations and provide viable employment solutions for young people.

Under the current inclusive education policy, SEN students are mostly assigned to regular schools. However, busy teachers often find it difficult to cater to the individual learning needs of each SEN student. As a result, many parents arrange tutoring for their children to keep up with school and public exam progress.

Flowclass is an AI platform that matches SEN students’ parents with tutoring services. For example, if a child has low listening skills or is easily distracted, the platform can filter and recommend suitable services. Parents and service providers can also communicate directly through the platform’s chatroom to understand each other’s needs.

TEE.AI

Recent advancements in “muscle activity signal sensing technology” detect the weak vibration signals produced by muscle contraction, accurately analyzing muscle movements. Combined with a wearable smart wristband, it can be widely used in motion-sensing games and various life scenarios.

TEE.AI is a programming and AI education platform for upper primary school students and above. It teaches programming step-by-step, with online real-time learning and offline use of the smart wristband developed by the team. This allows students to apply programming concepts to control different objects and tools, enhancing memory and learning outcomes by learning abstract programming concepts through tangible objects.

Lighten Dementia

Currently, about 10% of elderly people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong suffer from cognitive impairment. Common cognitive training tools, such as small towels, balls, and cards, are often difficult to use due to the decline in the elderly’s vision or mobility.

Lighten Dementia, designed from a product designer’s perspective, improves traditional cognitive training and has developed three games, such as the “Color-Changing Tea Bag” for memory training and “Fly Swatting” for reaction speed training. These aim to comprehensively target abilities like motor coordination, attention, and social interaction, combining training with games.

Flipping the Online Classroom – Learning STEM for Everyone
Team Members: 梁浩然, 黎伊喬

The education sector is actively promoting STEM education in primary and secondary schools and plans to expand it to humanities subjects. However, not all teachers are fully equipped with STEM teaching knowledge and skills, especially those from humanities backgrounds, who may face challenges in lesson preparation.

“Flipping the Online Classroom – Learning STEM for Everyone” strengthens the foundational support for current and prospective teachers in STEM teaching and programming through an online learning platform and live streaming. The project also adopts the “Flipping Classroom” model, providing teacher-designed materials for students to prepare before class, reducing teachers’ daily workload through shared resources.
